About the Attendance Policy There is no substitute for the time your child spends in class learning with their peers. When a child misses school, they miss academic time that cannot be recaptured adequately. Because of this fact, the state requires the district to maintain a student attendance level above 94% each year and ties state funding to the amount of time students spend in school.
MAP Results DESE has released state achievement data to the public. Our District showed gains in several areas, but did not meet Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP). You can access the district's AYP results and state report card at the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) website:
MAP Testing Complete MAP test is now complete. Many of the kids have worked very hard to prove how much they have learned under the direction of their teachers. We will get results back some time in September if the state is able to keep their deadlines. We will use that data to further develop our curriculum and improve our instruction.
Second Place State Finish What an amazing ride this year has been in volleyball. The Lady Redwings have proven that they are a force to be reckoned with for at least a few more years to come. The games on Friday kept me on the edge of my seat. The girls easily defeated Santa Fe in two sets looking like nothing was going to stop them.

Welcome to the new and improved website! We are excited about the upcoming year. This new look is just a small example of the work we are doing to make education more productive and effective for our children. We are especially excited that 2010 marks the 100 year anniversary of the original high school structure that still houses our offices, media center, and board room. Stay tuned for more content to be added as students and teachers return.

Sincerely,

Superintendent

Laptops in Every Backpack

scalecompuOur Senior High School began issuing computers to every freshman in 2007, with the goal of every student having a computer by 2010. In fact, the school will meet that goal one year early; every high school student will receive his or her computer in time for the 2009 school year. Dr. Steve Holland, superintendent of the district, expressed his satisfaction with the program and the ability to support each high school student's technology needs ahead of schedule.

"As we saw how the students who had laptops benefited from this tool, it became imperative to do everything we could to implement the program as quickly as possible," said Holland. "We found that by making using of some existing lab computers and buying just a few more than we normally would, we could both stay within our budget and meet all of our computer needs." The school has enough laptops for every 9th-12th-grade student, plus a few extra. "We anticipate that we will have a few students who are new to our school and we want to make sure we can take care of them as well," stated Dr. Holland.

Welcome to Our Elementary School

welcome_1Welcome to the Elementary School. The faculty and staff join me in saying we are happy to have you as part of the Elementary family. We hope this will be a successful and satisfying year for you. The staff at the elementary was very busy this summer with preparations for this school year and we are ready for a great start.

We are excited about Reading First and the opportunity it has given our school for resources to teach reading. While there are no quick solutions for optimizing reading achievement, through Reading First, our students will learn skills that will provide the basis for sound instruction that can and will prevent reading failure. The reading program at Elementary School will provide a rich, comprehensive program of instruction. Our common goal is that every child will learn to read at levels that meet or exceed grade-level standards.
We feel that open and clear communication between school and home is important to the success of our educational program. The student handbook will serve as a helpful reference to parents as they seek to provide academic support at home. Parents are important and necessary partners in the important job of educating the children of this community. Thank you for your commitment to our partnership.

We welcome your participation and support during the school year and solicit your ACTIVE membership in the PTO. Working together, we will be able to reach our collective and individual goals. We look forward to celebrating with you the achievements of our students.
